If you don’t know Hevisaurus by now, for shame (at least if you live in Finland). This child-friendly heavy metal band of dinosaurs (and one dragon) have been around for over a decade now and are hugely popular among children and adults alike, not compromising the classic heavy metal instruments despite the silly vocals.
The band is made up of Herra Hevisaurus on vocals, Komppi Momppi on drums, Muffi Puffi on bass, Milli Pilli on keyboards, and of course, the dragon Riffi Raffi on guitar. However, as the new single “100” is a song that is celebrating the fact that it is their 100th song, it features Finnish legends like Marko Hietala (Nightwish, Tarot), Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius, Cain’s Offering), and Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), as well as awesome newcomers like Iivo Kaipainen (Arion) and Mikael Salo (Everfrost, Metal de Facto), among many, many more. Oh, and Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray) and Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth) are in there too, because why the hell not?
Saying this song is epic AF is a bit of an understatement. It’s got all sorts of influences from all sorts of different types of metal and doesn’t even shy away from a rather Dimmu Borgir -style death metal part (ft. Mikko Kotamäki of Swallow the Sun doing the growls). In fact, it takes a few different twists and turns and spends a lot of time letting some of the locals (and Germans) shred on guitar/keyboards. Rather than spoil too much, let’s just say you should listen to it, and it’s probably going to be an easy nomination for Most Epic Song of 2019!
